Personal Care Attendant in the home



Some children with disabilities use the services of a personal care attendant in their homes. At PACER, we hear stories where the relationship works well and others where there are struggles.

Do you know your special education rights?



After a recent PACER workshop on special education rights, a parent raised her hand to make comment. In tears she said, “Who was supposed to tell me all this? I feel so guilty that I didn’t know my rights sooner.”

Special Education Rights and the 18 year old student


   Did you know that most parental special education rights transfer to the child at age 18? Children need as much practice in self advocacy as possible before they turn 18 when parental rights transfer to the special education student unless guardianship has been established. Self advocacy skills prepare students for the world and their future beyond high school.
