Sometimes a good quote can give hope or a new perspective.
For example parent advocate manager Virginia Richardson values the quote she
heard once, “You cannot hurry the river” (source unknown). She says, “It reminds me that I need to enjoy
my child and know that everything is not about a projected outcome that is
totally dependent on how hard I work at it.”
Do you have a quote that has been
helpful in parenting your child with a disability?
What got us through to their adulthood was: "It won't always be like this." As the years wore on, it felt silly to say that because it never seemed true, but hope is a very strong motivator. Now that they are 30 and 34, the problems are different but far fewer and much farther between. The times when all we could say at the end of the day was "Nobody died" don't happen anymore. Hang on, it's worth it - it really is.
