Listening to others is an important skill. When you listen, you can gain needed information, and you can also ask yourself if the speaker is sharing opinions or facts. A fact will have data or records to back up what is said. Decisions should be based on facts.
How have you found listening to others helpful in planning for your child with a disability?

  3. Yes it is important and helpful to listen to others when planning for my child. I have found it to be most helpful tho to ask for clarification if I don't understand something. If someone is telling me something that I find hard to believe or it just doesn't "sound right", I want to make sure they are able to share data with me that supports what they are saying.

  5. Occasionally admitting I don't know everything, two options to learn are to find and study some reference material, or to listen to someone who might have knowledge from prior education and/or experience. Both have worked for me. With either approach the first challenge is to determine if the source is credible, and then to really pay attention when it appears that I don't agree with, or don't like, what I'm reading or hearing.
